Graf White Oak Chevron

A continuous line through the room

Chevron makes a strong architectural statement from a simple material. Its angled board ends meet in a continuous zigzag, drawing the eye along the floor. That alignment distinguishes it from herringbone's staggered rectangular blocks. Graf's published chevron sample family identifies engineered 4-inch white oak, providing a starting point for a more detailed project specification.

The details that matter

The pattern's visual strength makes setting-out especially important. Establish how its central lines relate to an entry, fireplace, island, or dining table. In an irregular room, decide which sightline matters most rather than trying to make every wall look symmetrical. The installer should review cuts and borders before the material quantity is approved.

Specify the pattern as a complete product

A chevron order needs more than a species name. Confirm the angle, width, length, thickness, grade, construction, finish, and any left/right requirements that apply to the supplied system. Graf notes that custom specifications can be requested. Obtain written confirmation of the requested combination rather than assuming a sample selector is an inventory list for the final floor.

Keep transitions as deliberate as the pattern

A patterned floor often meets straight planks, stone, stairs, or a doorway threshold. Resolve these junctions while selecting the material. The relative thicknesses and trim profiles can affect both appearance and installation. Choose the coating in the room's actual light and maintain it with the corresponding care guidance. The geometry makes the floor visually distinctive, but the surface still needs the same protection from standing water, grit, and dragging furniture as other hardwood.
