Graf Solid Red Oak

A warmer oak palette

Red oak is a compelling choice for interiors that welcome visible grain and a warmer natural foundation. Graf's sample family identifies a solid 3/4-inch construction. That makes species, grade, width, and final finish the key details to compare before an installation is specified. It should not be substituted for white oak purely because both products carry the word oak in their names.

The details that matter

An unfinished red oak sample helps you assess the underlying material, but the finished appearance depends on the complete coating system. Compare it next to wall paint, cabinetry, and adjacent flooring. If you are extending a floor into another room, have a professional identify the existing species and profile. Differences that look subtle on loose boards can become obvious across a continuous installed surface.

Select the right amount of character

The public selector lists Select + Better, Character, 1 Common, and 2 Common grades. Rift + Quartered, Rift, and Plain Sawn grain options are also shown for this solid family. Establish the desired visual range before comparing quotes. A clean, consistent appearance and a more varied floor are deliberate choices, not descriptions that can safely be inferred from the word premium.

Prepare a complete order

Record the exact thickness and width along with the needed floor area. Your installer should establish the cutting allowance and verify the subfloor, moisture conditions, and installation method. Ask about lengths, packaging, trims, and the finish schedule before the purchase is finalized. For care, follow the coating manufacturer's directions, use protective pads under furniture, and keep grit off the surface. Solid wood is not a substitute for a waterproof finish system in a wet room.
