Herringbone Wood Flooring

Herringbone creates movement with rectangular blocks arranged in an offset pattern. The geometry can give a restrained palette a strong architectural identity, particularly in an entry, dining room, or another space with a clear approach. Its joints are different from chevron, so the two patterns need different flooring specifications even when they share the same wood species.

The layout deserves attention before the order quantity is set. Establish the pattern direction, centerline, borders, and doorway cuts with the installer. The product shown here is an engineered white oak herringbone family with configurable sample lengths. Custom flooring specifications require confirmation. Select the complete block dimensions and finish rather than attempting to reproduce a room image with a loosely similar plank.

Are herringbone and chevron interchangeable?

No. Herringbone uses rectangular blocks and staggered joints; chevron uses angled ends meeting in continuous lines.

Does herringbone require a specialist layout?

It requires careful setting-out. Ask the installer to plan the pattern, borders, centerline, and cuts before ordering.

What wood is shown in this collection?

The current product family is engineered white oak. Other species should not be assumed available without a confirmed specification.

Can the pattern run through a doorway?

It can be planned that way, but alignment, expansion requirements, and the transition should be resolved before installation.

How much cutting allowance is needed?

The allowance depends on the room geometry, block size, borders, and layout. Have the installer calculate it.

Should I choose short or long blocks?

Compare their proportions against the room and the intended pattern scale. Confirm the selected dimensions on the quotation.

Can a patterned oak floor be refinished?

Possibly, depending on construction, remaining wear layer, coating, and condition. The pattern itself does not establish refinishing suitability.
