Choosing wood for your room

A bedroom floor should work with the room's quieter scale. Compare board width beside the bed, closet doors, and window light instead of judging a sample alone. Natural grain can add texture to simple bedding and painted walls, while the finish sheen influences how strongly the surface reflects light.

For an upstairs bedroom, discuss the whole floor assembly with the installer. Underlayment, fastening, and the building's structure affect sound; a wood species alone does not establish acoustic performance. Include closets in your measurements if the floor will continue into them, and check door clearances after accounting for the final installed thickness.
